Buffy's back in Season Eight

Buffy Slays On In the New Whedon / Dark Horse Comic Series
Posted: Sunday, January 14, 2007

Music to the ears of vamp slaying fans everywhere Joss Whedon is continuing the popular Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series in comic form with the help of Dark Horse Comics.  Dark Horse has released some sample pages from the premier of the new Whedon written Buffy series.  The sample pages seem to portray Buffy as leading, or a part of a slightly more modern SWAT like anti-demon team then we are used too as she is deployed with others from a helicopter carrying futuristic comic style weapons.

This is not the first time Whedon has used comics to bridge one of his TV projects that saw a demise before its time. As many Firefly fans know Whedon used a 3 part, 9 variant cover, comic mini series to transition viewers of Firefly from the TV format to the big screen while further developing characters and timeline between the show and the movie.  This move was a smart move on the part of Whedon and movie studios, helping to ease the motion picture “feel” that shocks many fans at the theaters when TV or print medium franchises are adapted to the big screen and for wider audiences then the core fan base.

The TV version of Buffy The Vampire Slayer ended in season seven with the Sunnydale gang, a small army of junior slayers and Buffy beating back the forces of evil in to the hell mouth just before Spike brought the house down with a magic amulet that left the Hell mouth swallowing all of Sunnydale before closing for good, and core cast less a few key players escaping on a school bus.

Here is hoping this comic franchise finds the kind of success and loyal fan base the television show did. Perhaps this line of comics could someday lead to a live action motion picture set in a modern and current Buffy style universe where both Buffy and Angel fans could find some closure to some very open ended storylines when both Buffy and Angel TV programs met their respective ends.

This is kinda sucks. I hated when buffy went off the air, It was my all time favourite show, still is. I own all seven seasons, whats this i have to read season eight screw that, There definitly will not be as many followers for the comic then there was for the show. There should be a season eight for televison thats what I was expecting when i heard the news of a season eight rumor. Once i found out that It was in comic form it was quite dissapointing.
